In last night’s GOP debate, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison became tongue-tied as she tried to explain the unexplainable:
Hutchison struggled most when asked about her position on abortion, an issue that has always dogged her with some Republicans. She has at times over the years voiced support for the Roe v. Wade decision that legalized abortion, but became flustered when asked if she was in favor of overturning the decision. Noting that she has supported numerous restrictions on abortion, she said overturning the law would allow states to pass laws that would allow many more abortions to take place.
Some states, Hutchison said, would become “abortion havens” that would allow abortion “as the baby is coming out of the birth canal.”
