A Major Initiative in Support of Christine O’Donnell for Senate

One week after announcing its slate of endorsements for the 2010 midterm elections, Catholic Families for America is rolling out its list of “priority seats,” or states and districts where it will concentrate its resources this fall. The first in this list is the U.S. Senate seat in Delaware, where Christine O’Donnell is vying for the Republican nomination.

“In Christine O’Donnell, voters in Delaware have a bona fide pro-family, pro-life, small government conservative,” stated Dr. Kevin Roberts, executive director for CFA. “As we look for Senate candidates who can benefit most from our resources and organization, we know that Christine O’Donnell will lead the fight in reclaiming our republic from the tidal wave of liberal tyranny during the last two years.”

Roberts also mentioned that his group was particularly motivated to assist O’Donnell because her opponent for the Republican nomination, Congressman Mike Castle, is notorious for his political stances that violate the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church, in spite of self-identifying as a Catholic.

“Aside from Nancy Pelosi, it’s hard to find a more treacherous display of using one’s faith when it’s helpful politically but discarding it when it’s ‘inconvenient,’” Roberts said. “Mike Castle could not even support restricting the transport of minors across state lines to obtain an abortion, could not find the spine to support a ban on the federal funding of so-called ‘family planning’ abroad, and yet has been able to support human cloning.” Roberts also mentioned that Castle supports same-sex marriage.

“But in addition to life issues, Castle is also dead-wrong on other matters. He’s already voted for cap-and-trade, and may very well do so again. He’s been a consistent opponent of education reform. He’s also been absurdly anti-family on tax policies. In short, Castle is a poster child for the ‘cafeteria Catholicism’ that plagues Washington,” Roberts concluded.

O’Donnell, on the other hand, fits perfectly with CFA’s key policy objectives, which include preservation of the sanctity of life, pro-family tax policies, traditional marriage, and education reform. Moreover, O’Donnell’s record as a “movement conservative” and expert communicator will make her an effective national voice for conservative causes.

Catholic Families for America is building state and local chapters across the country, to better facilitate what it calls its Catholic-Get-Out-The-Vote (CGOTV) efforts. CFA has offices in Austin, Texas, and Washington, D.C.

The Delaware primary election is September 14, 2010.

CFA Announces Endorsements for 2010 Midterm Elections

On the Feast Day of Sts. Thomas More and John Fisher, whose courage in the face of apostasy and government corruption should be a model for American Catholics, Catholic Families for America announced its endorsements in more than 30 U.S. House and 12 U.S. Senate races. Endorsed candidates had to fulfill a strict set of guidelines that cover every major public policy issue facing the United States today.

A Thank You to our Vets this Memorial Day

Today we would like to thank all of those veterans from the very beginning of our nation who have helped ensure the freedoms we all enjoy and take for granted every day. Among the most important of those, are enumerated in the first amendment to the constitution. “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” These rights, given from god, enumerated by our democratic government, based on the simpler rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, have always required great sacrifice from brave men and women to protect. Today we pray, both in thanks for those who have been granted these beautiful gifts, and for those who yet seek them around the world. We thank our nation’s veterans from the depths of our hearts for your sacrifices. May God bless you and your families. Thank you.

CFA Announces Rubio Endorsement

Today Marco Rubio picked up a major endorsement in his race for the U.S. Senate seat in Florida. Catholic Families for America (CFA), one of the largest organizations of lay Catholics in the nation, praised Rubio for his pro-family, pro-life stance, as well as his commitment to a smaller, more efficient, and more virtuous federal government.

“Among the several dozen candidates for the U.S. House and U.S. Senate whom CFA plans to endorse, Marco Rubio is at the head of the class,” said CFA Executive Director Dr. Kevin Roberts. “His substantive, traditional values message, coupled with his upbeat approach, is a welcome tonic to our toxic public square right now.”

Roberts also commented that Rubio was a “natural fit” with CFA’s key policy objectives, which include preservation of the sanctity of life, pro-family tax policies, traditional marriage, and education reform. “This is even more true,” Roberts said, “when one considers that Mr. Rubio is the only true conservative in the race. It is imperative that, in 2010, we elect authentic leaders like Marco Rubio who will remain steadfast to the principles of smaller, more sensible, and more virtuous government.”

Roberts concluded, “For all voters, but especially those who are faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church, we strongly encourage them to support Marco Rubio.”

Dr. Roberts’ Statement on Kagan Nomination

Today Catholic Families for America, one of the largest groups of lay Catholics in the country, announced its opposition to the nomination of Solicitor General Elena Kagan to the U.S. Supreme Court, citing “grave concerns” about her promotion of same-sex “marriage” and abortion, as well as a “dangerous internationalism” that has become fashionable among leftist jurists.

To galvanize citizens’ concerns, particularly those of Catholic voters, CFA has initiated a nationwide petition that it will forward to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The petition can be signed here.

“By nominating Miss Kagan to the Supreme Court, the president continues to demonstrate a brass-knuckles, Chicago-mobster mentality toward unifying our nation,” said Dr. Kevin Roberts, executive director of CFA. “Naming someone who has been so actively hostile to traditional marriage and to the unborn lays bare the president’s pro-abortion, anti-family agenda, in spite of what he says to the contrary.”

Roberts also expressed considerable angst over Kagan’s lurch toward so-called “international law,” which he described as “a disturbing, fashionable trend among leftist jurists.” He explained further, “By citing foreign laws in their American jurisprudence, liberal judges not only violate the sovereignty of the American people, but also advance a dangerous assault on the notion of the family. This is an affront to Catholic Church teaching, and we are, therefore, adamantly opposed to any public figure who promotes this thinking.”

CFA Endorses Two Candidates in GOP Primary for Kansas’ 3rd Congressional District

Today CFA PAC announced its endorsement of Patricia Lightner and John Rysavy, both candidates in the Republican primary for the Kansas 3rd Congressional District.

“Catholic Families for America is honored to endorse Patricia Lightner and John Rysavy,” said Dr. Kevin Roberts, executive director of the group. “Both candidates scored a 100 on our candidate questionnaire. Every voter who is concerned about the moral, cultural, and economic direction of our country should consider these two candidates seriously.”

CFA was founded in 2008 in response to 54 percent of self-identified Catholic voters supporting the most pro-abortion presidential candidate in American history. Gearing up for the 2010 midterm elections, Catholic Families for America is searching for pro-life, pro-family candidates like Lightner and Rysavy whom it can support and promote with its Catholic voter outreach model. The group will conduct a direct mail campaign, as well as other efforts, to generate voter support for these pro-life, pro-family candidates.

“By this summer,” Roberts continued, ” CFA will have endorsed several dozen candidates for Congress. One need not be Roman Catholic to receive our endorsement — they just need to be genuine defenders of the moral clarity and financial responsibility that Church teaching suggests should be part of any government. Given the experiences, background, and platforms of Lightner and Rysavy, voters in the 3rd District GOP primary are blessed to have such top-notch public servants.”

The CFA candidate questionnaire covers every major public policy issue facing the United States, with an emphasis on the organization’s priorities of promoting a culture of life, protecting marriage, minimizing the size of the federal government, scrapping an unjust federal income tax, and supporting education reform. Though the group often endorses just one candidate in a primary, both Patricia Lightner and John Rysavy had a perfect score on the questionnaire, triggering the group’s dual endorsement.
CFA’s national headquarters are in Austin, Texas, with a satellite office in Washington, and several state chapters nationwide.

2010 Will Be a Year of Reckoning

The radical Left assumes that our fervor will dissipate after yesterday’s vote on health care “reform.” It is imperative that we channel our anger into methods that will hold accountable those people–especially Catholic elected officials–for betraying Church teaching on the culture of life, subsidiarity, and responsible stewardship. Dear Speaker Pelosi:

On behalf of the several thousand members of Catholic Families for America, and countless scores of Roman Catholics who have expressed concern, even outrage, for your comments yesterday, I implore you to rescind your invocation of St. Joseph to help passage of the health care bill before the House.

How can you, as a Roman Catholic, actually invoke the earthly father of the Holy Family to support a bill that provides federal funding for abortion? How is it possible for you to continue your public scandal of supporting abortion and the violation of subsidiarity while still calling yourself “Catholic”?

That you referred to “St. Joseph the Worker,” a day we celebrate on May 1^st, rather than “St. Joseph, Husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary,” indicates how little you really know about the Faith. Stop using it for your nefarious ends.

Given that scandal, our organization has issued a press release on the matter, and we will activate our membership, and that of allied organizations, to increase the public’s awareness of your continued, public apostasy as a Roman Catholic. We will not rest until you leave office—or until, as we pray daily—you see the light and join our side.

I do wish you, your family, and your staff the Lord’s peace, and encourage all of you to examine your consciences about the work you are doing to promote abortion and undermine the family.
